A Man Wah é uma das dezenas de empresas chinesas que se mudaram para parques industriais no norte do México nos últimos anos, para trazer a produção mais perto do mercado dos EUA. Além de economizar no transporte, seu produto final é considerado completamente mexicano – o que significa que as empresas chinesas podem evitar as tarifas e sanções dos EUA impostas aos produtos chineses em meio à guerra comercial contínua entre os dois países.
Enquanto o gerente geral da empresa, Yu Ken Wei, me mostra suas vastas instalações, ele diz que a mudança para o México faz sentido econômico e logístico.
“Esperamos triplicar ou até quadruplicar a produção aqui”, diz ele em espanhol perfeito. “A intenção aqui no México é levar a produção ao nível de nossa operação no Vietnã”.
A empresa chegou à cidade de Monterrey apenas em 2022, mas já emprega 450 pessoas no México. Yu Ken Wei diz que eles esperam crescer para mais de 1.200 funcionários, operando várias novas linhas na fábrica nos próximos anos.
“As pessoas aqui no México são muito trabalhadoras e aprendem rápido”, diz o Sr. Yu. “Temos bons operadores e sua produtividade é alta. Então, do lado trabalhista, acredito que o México seja estrategicamente muito bom também”.
Certamente, o nearshoring é considerado um importante impulso para a economia mexicana – até junho do ano passado, as exportações totais do México aumentaram 5,8% em relação ao ano anterior, atingindo US$ 52,9 bilhões (£ 42,4 bilhões).
A tendência mostra poucos sinais de desaceleração. Em apenas dois meses deste ano, foram anunciados investimentos de capital no México que representam quase metade do total anual de 2020.
A fábrica de sofás Man Wah está localizada dentro de Hofusan, um parque industrial sino-mexicano. A demanda por seus terrenos é altíssima: todos os espaços disponíveis foram vendidos.

“As razões estruturais que estão trazendo capital para o México estão aqui para ficar”, diz Juan Carlos Baker Pineda, ex-vice-ministro do comércio exterior do México. “Não tenho indicação de que a guerra comercial entre China e EUA vá diminuir tão cedo”.
Baker Pineda fez parte da equipe de negociação do México para o novo acordo de livre comércio da América do Norte, o USMCA.
“Embora a origem chinesa do capital que está entrando no México possa ser desconfortável para as políticas de alguns países”, diz ele, “de acordo com a legislação de comércio internacional, esses produtos são, para todos os efeitos, mexicanos”.
